In 2020, voters in the City of Danville approved a casino referendum. Danville's City Council formally certified Caesars Virginia as the preferred casino operator following the referendum. A temporary casino was opened in a former River mill site in mid-2023 with the full grand opening of Caesars Danville occurring in late 2024.
In 2024, the Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism produced the following video to inform residents of the City of Petersburg about Danville's experience with Caesars Virginia prior to Petersburg's referendum.
