In 2024, voters in the City of Petersburg approved a casino referendum. Following the referendum, the City of Petersburg issued a request for development proposals, ultimately selecting The Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise as the preferred operator. A temporary casino was opened in early-2026 with the full grand opening of Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia expected in late-2027.
